Ella Pickover
Ella Pickover is health correspondent for the PA news agency. She works from Suffolk and London and covers all aspects of health news from medical breakthroughs to NHS policy. She previously worked as a general reporter for PA and as a reporter for the St Albans Review.
Daniel Pye
Daniel works in medical journalism at Doctors.net.uk, and has written a range of news and feature articles covering topics such as the MRCP exam error, clinicians with long Covid and a history of NHS England, along with tribunal, select committee and high court hearings.
Prior to this Daniel worked in local journalism, reporting on the nurses’ strike, various stories about Morecambe Bay trust and rural GP surgeries struggling to stay open because of staff shortages. His biggest local health story came from a tip off about a former PCR contractor that failed to pay staff following an unsuccessful change in its business model at the end of the pandemic.
Sam Blanchard
Sam is the Health Correspondent for The Sun newspaper and website and leads its coverage of health policy, NHS performance and medical research. He started at The Sun in 2021 after three years on the health desk at MailOnline, where he covered the Covid-19 pandemic. Before specialising in health in 2018, Sam worked as a news reporter and photographer for local newspapers in Wiltshire and studied the Newspaper Journalism MA course at City University in London.
Lee Peart
Lee Peart is an experienced health and social care editor. He led the launch of Hemming Group’s new fortnightly magazine for healthcare leaders, Healthcare Management, in October 2024 and is a regular contributor to sister title, The Municipal Journal. Previously, Lee spent eight years as an editor of leading social care publications. He established Care Home Professional as a market leading monthly magazine and newsletter before leaving to lead the relaunch of established social care publication Caring Times as editor-in-chief. During his coverage of the pandemic, Lee appeared on national TV and radio. He has also hosted major industry roundtable, panel and awards events.
Scott Mathew
Scott is a freelance journalist whose specialist interests in health are the application of AI, robotics, and emerging technologies – especially in diagnostics and surgery. Previous experience in the newsroom includes working at the Sunday Express on the home news desk, alongside the political editor, and stints on the home news desk at The Times. Working at The Times also included shifts on the comment desk in an editing and research capacity.
Scott holds a First Class Honours degree in Journalism from the University of Westminster. With a passion for reporting, editing, and providing analysis, he is particularly interested in innovation in healthcare (particularly AI and tech).
