The 2016 MJA Awards are now open for entry. This year the awards are bigger, better and more prestigious than ever — so make sure you don’t leave it to the last minute to enter.

The deadline is 19:00 on Thursday, April 21.

There are 16 awards, and thousands of pounds in prize money, up for grabs, and this year we are introducing a premier award for Outstanding Contribution to Health or Medical Journalism.

Judge: NHS Confederation chairman and former Health Secretary Stephen Dorrell

Judging panels are still being drawn up, but we can reveal that some very high profile names including NHS Confederation chairman and former Health Secretary, Stephen Dorrell; BBC Health Editor, Hugh Pym; former Daily Mail medical correspondent and Fleet Street legend, Jenny Hope; award-winning broadcaster Vivienne Parry; media medic Dr Dawn Harper and Lindsay Nicholson, the editorial director of Good Housekeeping have agreed to be judges.

Master of ceremonies for the awards ceremony on June 23 will be journalist and BBC newsreader Nicholas Owen. Presentations will be followed by a reception at the Barber Surgeon’s Hall in the City of London.

While some things have changed, others have not, and we are pleased to confirm that Boehringer Ingelheim will once again be our principal sponsor. The NHS Confederation is sponsoring our new headline award for Outstanding Contribution to Health or Medical Journalism.
