Members of the MJA were told the organisation had marked another successful and productive year at its annual general meeting on Wednesday.

Chair Shaun Lintern outlined the success of events including the annual lecture, symposium and awards which were all well attended and appreciated by members. He also confirmed the MHP Partnership has renewed for another year and sponsors continue to see value in partnering with the MJA to help support events.
Treasurer Sarah Nuttall had more good news to share reporting on two years accounts to bring our reporting the AGM bang up to date. Sarah confirmed the MJA is in a healthy financial position with two years of successful income generation.

The trading surplus in 2025 was £ 21,720 and this increased to £ 30,253 in 2026.
The AGM also heard a brief update on plans to redesign the new website with design company Makilo being chosen. It is hoped the new website will launch in the coming weeks and be a modern useful tool for members.
Sadly, the AGM was also informed that our long serving membership secretary Dawn Connelly had decided to step down after many years of service to the MJA and its members. Dawn has been a lynchpin of the MJA helping members and supporting the committee. The AGM voted to give Dawn a heartfelt formal vote of thanks as an organisation for her efforts and we wish her well.

The AGM also heard a motion put forward by Jane Symons setting out the MJA’s support for free speech.
The motion read: “The MJA supports free speech and evidence-based healthcare. We welcome robust debate as this informs health literacy and promotes accurate, independent information. Journalists must be free to cover controversial issues without fear of intimidation, censorship, reprisals or attacks on their integrity.”
The motion was approved by the AGM.
The next MJA annual meeting will be held in April 2027.
