Lead researcher, Professor Adrian Martineau from Queen Mary University London, shared early insights from the study with MJA members in a lunch-and-learn webinar last year. At that stage, the data suggested that vigorous exercise protects against Covid-19 — and that still appears to be the case. But the picture around other lifestyle and dietary facts was less clear.
The team had planned to publish their first paper before Christmas, but this was delayed in order to ensure more robust data and rule out reverse causality. A silver lining of the recent surge in cases is that the study now captures data on many more cases of Covid-19 — and some potentially important new trends are emerging.
A paper outlining the first findings will be published on a rapid access site within the next month. If you would like a copy — under embargo — or to interview Professor Martineau, please complete the form below.
