The clock is ticking for those hoping to win £500 in the 2026 Medical Journalists’ Association Awards, with just one week remaining before entries close.

The deadline for submissions is 23:59 on 10 June, and while we know from past experience many of you leave it to the last minute, this year there will be no deadline extensions.

So do not miss your chance to be recognised among the very best in health, medical and science journalism.

Widely regarded as the leading awards for health and science journalism in the UK, the MJA Awards celebrate outstanding reporting across 16 categories, spanning news, features, investigations, podcasts, specialist reporting and more.

There may be categories you didn’t even realise were options including health and climate, mental health, sexual health and science explained.

Winners receive the all important trophy, £500 cash prizes and recognition from a panel of expert judges.

Thanks to our principal sponsors Novartis, there will also be an Outstanding Contribution award worth £1,000 and chosen from the best of our winners.

Showcase your work

Entry is open to all but free for MJA members, making it one of the many benefits of membership.

Whether you’ve broken an important story, produced an impactful investigation, explained complex science or told a compelling human story, now is the time to showcase your best work from the past year.

The awards are judged by 48 experts from across the NHS and health journalism community, ensuring entries are assessed by people who understand the craft, complexity and impact of specialist health reporting.

If you’re looking for inspiration take a look at our recent guidance on preparing a strong submission, including advice on demonstrating the impact and significance of your work.

Submit your entry today via the MJA Awards entry portal where you will also find more details on the categories and entry criteria.

As always a huge thank you to all our sponsors who make the MJA Awards possible.
