If you’re looking for a fabulous foot in the door of health and medical journalism, Pulse is looking for a features assistant:

This is an exciting opportunity for a new journalist to join a multi-award-winning magazine, and market leader in the health sector. The role will be responsible for commissioning opinion pieces, debates, managing our array of bloggers, finding GPs who are taking on exciting roles outside their surgery. They will also be the voice of Pulse on social media.

The perfect candidate will be highly organised, planning: features for print issues months in advance; two blogs, opinions or features for the website every day; a newsletter with seven pieces on new content a month. They will have excellent proof-reading skills, confident enough to put articles on the website with minimal input from the editor. They will have the ability to build up a vast array of contacts within the sector. The successful candidate will also be happy to use social media, getting the tone right for the publication with support from the editor.

There will be plenty of opportunity for the successful candidate to take on other responsibilities within the team as they wish, whether that be finding exclusives for our award-winning news team, or even writing investigations for online and print.

They will work within a team of talented journalists and editors and be part of a growing and innovative publishing company which offers flexible working, whether in our central London office, remotely, or hybrid.

This would suit someone who is looking for a first or second role in journalism.
