2024 MJA Awards host, Dr Sian Williams

We’re delighted to announce that the 2024 MJA Awards will be compered by the award-winning journalist and psychologist Dr Sian Williams.

Sian spent almost 40 years as a reporter, producer and presenter across the BBC and ITN, including more than a decade hosting BBC Breakfast.

She is also a Chartered Counselling Psychologist in the NHS helping emergency responders deal with anxiety, stress and trauma, while in her private practice, she works with individual journalists, documentary teams and other news media to promote better mental health in challenging environments.

Resilience

Sian’s book, Rise: A first-aid kit for getting through tough times, explores how a diagnosis of breast cancer changed the way Sian looks her life, and celebrates the power of resilience, and she has written numerous articles and published peer-reviewed academic papers on recovery after adversity.

Her BBC Radio 4 series Life Changing on BBC Radio 4, has had more than ten million downloads, making it one of the platform’s most listened-to series.  Her BBC Radio4  documentaries and programmes on the mind and brain, include The Thought Chamber, How to Have a Better Brain (described by The Psychologist magazine as “touching and illuminating, a great listen”) and The Science of Resilience.

Judges for the 2024 MJA Awards are now working through the entries in their category to compile their individual short-lists, which will then be discussed and debated on our face-to-face judging day on July 30. Winners will be announced at the 2024 MJA Awards ceremony at News UK on September 11.
