Awards’ host Sian Williams

Broadcaster, author and Channel 5 news anchor Sian Williams will be our host for this year’s MJA Awards, which will be held on June 22 at the Barber-Surgeons’ Hall in the City of London.

In all, 16 awards will be presented, including our headline prize for Outstanding Contribution to Health or Medical Journalism. This year we have also introduced a special award for Best Freelance Journalist.

The deadline for entries is March 22, so be sure to get your entries in: click here for details of all the awards and the online entry form.

It is the MJA’s 50th anniversary this year, so we are delighted that Sian has agreed to help us celebrate excellence in health and medical journalism.

Sian is perhaps best known for her time on the BBC Breakfast sofa, and more recently for her incredibly honest first book: Rise: a first aid kit for getting through though times. And she is herself an award-winning broadcast journalist who’s worked in the industry for more than thirty years, as a producer, programme editor and presenter.

Sian has also written for the Guardian, Telegraph, Daily Mail, Radio Times and Woman and Home, as well as for academic publications such as The Psychologist.

Her other accomplishments include qualifying as a trained trauma assessor, becoming ITN’s first mental health champion and gaining an MSc in Psychology.
