The good news is that we’ve had more than 220 entries for the MJA awards. The bad news is… well you know that already – coronavirus.
The entries are in, but what happens next? Will the awards go ahead this summer? We just don’t know.
The judging phase, which normally includes an afternoon meeting where judges discuss short-lists and make their final decisions, can go ahead. If we can’t meet physically — as seems likely — we can use Skype and email to reach conclusions.
As for the awards night in June, we can only wait and see. We might have to postpone, we might have to cancel the ceremony but still give the awards, we might have to think about some-sort of live-streamed web-awards.
That would be a great disappointment, but in the scale of the crisis we are facing, it may be a necessary one. We are monitoring the situation, and already investigating alternative dates later in the year. So watch this space — and stay safe.
