Another week brings another clutch of awards trophies for MJA members, this time from the British Society of Magazine Editors.
Eleanor Philpotts from Pulse picked up the prize for Best Scoop, for her story revealing the Covid vaccination programme would start before Christmas 2020.
As the judges pointed out, Eleanor’s “incredible investigative journalism and knowledge of her sector led to the incredible scoop” and “getting it corroborated by no fewer than seven sources” led to the story being picked up by almost every UK media outlet. Eleanor also won the award for Best Editorial Assistant.
Brilliant
And it’s been such an amazing year for health news, a second Best Scoop Award was presented to Lawrence Dunhill from the Health Service Journal. The judges said, “A brilliant contacts book and impressive understanding of his sector allowed Lawrence to blow open the crisis in critical care at the start of the pandemic.”
The HSJ added another gong to its burgeoning trophy cabinet with Sharon Brennan winning the award for Best Digital Writer — B2B for her “focused investigate journalism” and “brilliant reporting”.
Jessica Hamzelou from New Scientist won Best Specialist Writer — Digital, for “her ability to take in complex scientific concepts and create compelling, highly readable, articles for a mainstream audience”.
