Rising star: Eliza Parr, from Pulse

MJA member Eliza Parr has picked up two trophies at the 2024 British Society of Magazine Editors awards — Best B2B writer and a joint win, with fellow member and Pulse staffer Anna Colivicchi, for Best Use of Data Journalism.

The judges said, “In her first role in journalism, Eliza Parr’s skilful reporting and command of data-driven storytelling resonated with her audience, and caught the eye of the judges. A star in the making, she shone through in a hotly contested category.”

The verdict of judges for the data award was, “Anna and Eliza took a challenge faced by millions of Britons every day — getting a GP appointment — and dug into the numbers to explain why the UK public is underserved in a thorough and compelling way. Their work successfully brought to life a piece of work that could help to shape government policy.”

The award for Best B2B Podcast was claimed by the team from Pharmaceutical Journal which featured MJA member Julia Robertson and not one, not two, but three members of the MJA EC — Dawn Connolly, Carolyn Wickware and Nigel Praities, who has since move to the BMJ, where he is head of content for careers and learning. Judges said, “The winning entry used the podcast format to bring to life its well-researched investigative journalism for not only its audience, but the wider public too, while showcasing its core written content.”

MJA members Anna Colivicchi from Pulse and Zoe Tidman from HSJ also featured in the recent MHP Group 30 To Watch awards, which champion rising stars of journalism.
