Rebecca Thomas, winner of the MJA Award for Mental Health Story of the Year is a finalist for the health and life sciences prize at the British Journalism Awards

MJA members dominate shortlists for the British Journalism Awards for both health and life sciences journalism and specialist journalism. Members and previous winners of our Newcomer of the Year Award also feature in the shortlist for new journalist of the year.

Winners of MJA Awards last month, Hannah Barnes from the Spectator, and Rebecca Thomas, from the Independent are among the finalists for the health and life sciences award — along with fellow member Martin Bagot of the Mirror and Hanna Geissler from the Daily Express.

And in the shortlist for the specialist journalism award includes our 2024 Newcomer of the Year, Emily Townsend, Peter Blackburn of  The Doctor, Deborah Cohen and Margaret McCartney for a piece in the Pharmaceutical Journal.

While our 2023 Newcomer of the Year winner, Simar Bajaj is one of the finalists for new journalist of the year, for work published in the Guardian and New Scientist.
