This week the MJA has agreed to an exciting new partnership with the MHP Group communications agency to provide our members with exclusive media briefings on some of the latest news and developments in health.
These briefings will be designed around our members’ interests in health research and policy and include news announcements by MHP clients such as AstraZeneca, who was principal MJA awards sponsor this year. Other clients include Novo Nordisk and GSK as well as NHS trusts and health charities.
Exclusive briefings
As part of the deal, MJA members will get embargoed press releases, access to the exclusive briefings and a chance to quiz key players when news announcements are being planned. All provided in good time and hosted by your MJA. We think this gives our members a first-in-the-queue approach to any big developments coming down the line from some of MHP’s biggest partners.
The agreement is governed by a Code of Conduct which is available to members on the Key Documents section of the website. It means the MJA retains editorial freedom over the content of briefings, the questions asked and the addition of independent experts if needed. We have also reserved the right to decline to host a briefing if we think it isn’t of value to members.
Look out for announcements of briefings both online and in your newsletter.
Annual lecture
The agreement with MHP will also provide support to deliver an annual lecture event with the biggest names in health following on from our successful pre-election event with the now Secretary of State for Health and Social Care Wes Streeting. The lecture will be jointly hosted by MHP and the MJA and include networking and the all important refreshments.
Another feature of the partnership is the ability to offer paid opportunities to members who wish to take part in pharmaceutical media advisory boards. The MJA won’t be endorsing any particular opportunities, but will be paid to communicate the offer to members to take up individually should they wish.
While the partnership with MHP is exclusive in terms of media briefings, the agreement negotiated by myself and the executive committee means the MJA remains free to work with the NHS, pharmaceutical companies, charities and any organisation sponsoring our annual awards.
This is all part of our renewed effort to provide you, our members, with more benefits. We have plans to go further and look out for our members’ survey coming soon where you can help shape the future of the MJA.
