MJA members are shortlisted for no less than four awards at this year’s British Press awards.

Eleanor Hayward

As you would expect, members account for most of the finalists for Health Journalist of the year, with Eleanor Hayward of The Times, Laura Donnelly of The Telegraph, Rebecca Thomas of The Independent, Sarah Neville of the FT and MJA chair and Sunday Times health editor and MJA chair Shaun Lintern competing for the prize.

Simar Bajaj

Simar Bajaj a rising new talent — who won our Newcomer of the Year Award in 2023 — is shortlisted for Young Journalist of the Year.

Science and technology

In the Science and Technology category, Ben Spencer of The Sunday Times, Robin McKie from The Observer and Tom Whipple of The Times are all shortlisted.

And Hannah Barnes, now at The Spectator, is shortlisted for the Broadsheet Feature Writer of the Year. Having picked up three category awards plus our headline Outstanding Contribution award at the 2024 MJA Awards, she may need to invest in a larger trophy cabinet.

Winners are announced on May 22 and you can view the full shortlists here.

The 2025 MJA Awards will open for entry in May.
